Barcelona scout Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram amidst Manchester United interest
La Liga giants Barcelona have sent scouts to watch Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun).
The France international’s current contract at Die Fohlen is set to expire at the end of the season. Subsequently, the Blaugrana are monitoring the 25-year-old.
Xavi’s team have received favourable reports for the forward. He fits the criteria the Camp Nou side are looking for at the moment, with their financial situation restricting the Spanish side to cheaper alternatives.
In the ongoing transfer window, Thuram is available for around £10 million. As a result, along with the Old Trafford side, Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United are also eyeing the French national.
The 25-year-old has been at Gladbach since the summer of 2019. Over the years, he has mostly been deployed on the left wing. However, Daniel Farke has opted to play the forward in the number nine position in the current campaign, where he has thrived.
This season, in 17 appearances in all competitions for Die Fohlen, Thuram has found the back of the net 13 times and has provided four assists.
The forward also shone for France at the 2022 World Cup. Didier Deschamps picked the 25-year-old to represent Les Bleus in Qatar, where he featured heavily in the final against Argentina after coming on as a substitute in the first half.
United’s attacking depth has weakened following Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit in November. Now, the Red Devils only have two established forwards in Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

The duo have been the main threat in front of goal for the Old Trafford side. Therefore, we need a striker. But Barcelona already have the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres at the moment. It does not make sense for them to add Thuram to their ranks.
