Marcus Thuram willing to turn down Newcastle United to join Manchester United in the summer
Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram is willing to turn down Newcastle United in January to sign for Manchester United in the summer.
The France international is leaning towards rejecting the Magpies in the ongoing transfer window to explore his options. Eddie Howe’s team have the likes of Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Chris Wood up top.
In the summer, the 25-year-old is set to become a free agent. Die Fohlen will likely demand a fee for the forward if interested parties come knocking. Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and the Red Devils are teams the striker is keen on.
Speaking to CaughtOffside (h/t Manchester Evening News), German journalist Christian Falk believes Thuram will only be enticed to move if a big club approach him. The Old Trafford side are amongst the sides that the striker is eyeing.
“If there’s a big offer, it has to come from a very big club – United is one of them, Bayern is one, Inter Milan and PSG. These four clubs are in their head.
“He won’t sign now at Newcastle as he’ll have so many options in the summer. But if one of these four clubs is knocking on his door then things could progress quickly.”
The France international has been in fine form this season. He usually played on the wings for Gladbach. But Daniel Farke has deployed the 25-year-old in the number nine position.
In the current campaign, Thuram has found the back of the net 13 times in 17 appearances in all competitions for Die Fohlen. The forward also caught Didier Deschamps’ eyes, who selected him in France’s 2022 World Cup squad.
In Qatar, the 25-year-old mostly came off the bench for Les Bleus. However, the striker played a critical role for them in the final, providing an assist against Argentina. But the side captained by Hugo Lloris eventually lost in the penalty shootout.
United are evidently in need of a new centre-forward after Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit in the middle of this season. Thuram has performed well as the focal point.
