Barcelona not looking to loan Memphis Depay in January with player ‘keen’ on Manchester United
La Liga giants Barcelona are not looking to loan Memphis Depay out in January, with the player ‘keen’ on moving to Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 28-year-old wants to make his way back to the Old Trafford side in the ongoing transfer window. However, the Blaugrana have no intention of letting the Holland international leave on a temporary move.
Depay’s current contract at the Camp Nou side is set to expire at the end of the campaign. As a result, they would rather cash in on the Holland international at this moment.
The Red Devils are monitoring the loan market to bolster the forward line in January. And the Manchester-based club are yet to make an offer for the 28-year-old.
United had signed Depay in the summer of 2015 from PSV Eindhoven. However, after failing to make a mark at the Old Trafford side, the Holland international joined Olympique Lyon after just one-and-a-half-seasons in Manchester.
The forward thrived in France during his stay there. Subsequently, Barcelona came calling to acquire the services of the 28-year-old as a free agent in the summer of 2021.
Depay has lost his place at the La Liga outfit this season. But while the 28-year-old has struggled with the Blaugrana, he thrived for the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup.
United lost Cristiano Ronaldo midway through the current campaign. Now, Erik ten Hag only has one natural striker at his disposal in Anthony Martial. Marcus Rashford has also been deployed up top on several occasions this term.
