Manchester United will ‘definitely’ try to sign new striker in January transfer window
Manchester United will ‘definitely’ try to sign a new striker in the ongoing transfer window to bolster Erik ten Hag’s forward options, according to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell on Twitter (h/t Express).
The Red Devils are seemingly looking for short-term options for the time being. It looks likely that the Old Trafford side will try to get someone on loan or a sign forward who will not put a dent in the club’s pockets.
Barcelona’s Memphis Depay and Bayern Munich star Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are seen as realistic options. However, it remains to be seen whether either of the two will make their way to Manchester in January.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently departed United. The 37-year-old’s untimely exit has led to the gaffer’s options in the attack dwindling.
While the Portugal international went down in the pecking order under Ten Hag, he was still an option to be deployed up front. Anthony Martial is now the only natural number nine in the squad.
Unfortunately, the France international has struggled with injuries in the current campaign. But the 27-year-old has fortunately been in the starting lineup in our recent fixtures.
Marcus Rashford has also been deployed up front on several occasions this season by the Dutch manager. The 25-year-old has done well and is our top goalscorer at the moment in the current campaign.
Ten Hag has other options at his disposal, like Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Elanga. However, they all have predominantly played out wide for the majority of their careers.

Therefore, hopefully, the Red Devils will reinforce the attack in January. But it remains to be seen who the Old Trafford side opt to buy, with options in the ongoing transfer window evidently few and far between.
