Manchester United make an approach for Marcus Thuram who is ‘open’ to move from Borussia Monchengladbach
Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram is ‘open’ to a Manchester United move in the ongoing transfer window, according to football journalist Ronan Murphy on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils have already made an approach for the 25-year-old’s signature, who is willing to part ways with Die Fohlen in January.
Currently, the France international is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2023. As a result, the Bundesliga outfit are looking for a fee between €10–€12 million for the striker.
Thuram signed for Gladbach in 2019 from French side Guingamp. Over the years, he has been a regular in the German club’s starting lineup.
However, in the current campaign, the 25-year-old has taken his game to the next level. The French national has been primarily deployed in the number nine position by Daniel Farke and he has thrived.
Thuram has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Die Fohlen this season. He has scored 13 goals and has provided four assists. The forward’s form also got him a call-up to the national side for the 2022 World Cup.
In Qatar, the 25-year-old was an important squad player for Didier Deschamps’ team. However, Les Bleus fell short in the final as Argentina beat them in the penalty shootouts.
United lost Cristiano Ronaldo during the mid-season break. The 37-year-old’s departure has left Erik ten Hag with only one natural striker in the squad. Anthony Martial is the only number nine at the Dutch manager’s disposal, but he has struggled to stay fit in the current campaign.

Therefore, the Red Devils evidently need to bolster their options up front. Thuram has shown that he can be a reliable goalscorer this season. But will the Old Trafford side spend the money to get him to Manchester in January? Only time will tell.
