Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ‘open’ to move to Premier League rivals Arsenal

Manchester United target and Serbia international Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is ‘open’ to moving to Premier League table-toppers Arsenal, according to Corriere dello Sport (h/t The Sun).

The Gunners are leading the race to sign the 27-year-old from Lazio. The Biancocelesti are not keen on parting ways with the midfielder. However, his current contract at the Serie A outfit expires in the summer of 2024.

As a result, the Italian side are contemplating parting ways with Milinkovic-Savic. The Rome-based club do not want to risk losing the Serbian on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old’s agent is looking for a transfer bid worth £35.2–£44 million to take to Lazio. At the moment, Mikel Arteta’s team are the one’s leading the race. The North London side have Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka marshalling the engine room for now.

United have been keen on signing Milinkovic-Savic as well. However, the Red Devils reinforced their midfield with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the summer of 2022.

Currently, the Danish and Brazilian stars have cemented their place in the Old Trafford side’s engine room alongside Bruno Fernandes. However, we seemingly lack quality on the bench.

The 27-year-old is also being eyed by Chelsea. Graham Potter’s team have an abundance of talent in the middle of the park. However, the likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are both in their 30s.

The Serbian has been at Lazio for several years now. He has developed into one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Italy. The midfielder has scored five goals and provided seven assists in 20 appearances for the Rome-based club this term.

Milinkovic-Savic is a quality player with the ability to make a difference in any team. Thus, if the 27-year-old is available, hopefully, United will put in a bid for his services.
