Chelsea to ‘rival’ Manchester United for Inter Milan and the Netherlands full-back Denzel Dumfries
Premier League rivals Chelsea are set to ‘rival’ Manchester United for the signature of Inter Milan and the Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are interested in bringing the Holland international to the club next year. However, they will face competition from the Blues, who are also keen on the 26-year-old.
Both sides are looking to bolster their squad with Dumfries. Graha Potter’s side currently have Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta capable of playing right-back.
However, while the England international is one of the best in the business, he has been unlucky with injuries over the years. On the other hand, Azpilicueta is in the final years of his career.
As for United, Dalot has been the first choice under Erik ten Hag. The Portugal international has started in a majority of the fixtures in the current campaign for the Red Devils.
The 23-year-old has shouldered the burden at right-back for the Dutch manager. Aaron Wan-Bissaka hardly got an opportunity at the start of the season. However, the former Crystal Palace star has been impressive in the Old Trafford side’s previous two fixtures.
However, the 25-year-old seems to have fallen out of favour under Ten Hag. Dalot’s unavailability has handed the England U21 his chances.
Dumfries signed for Inter in the summer of 2021 from PSV Eindhoven. Since then, the right-back has been decent in Milan. The 26-year-old also impressed many with his displays in Qatar for the Netherlands.

Thus, if Wan-Bissaka opts to part ways with United in the coming future, we will evidently need to add reinforcements to the team. Dumfries is a quality full-back and a decent option if the Red Devils do pursue him.
