West Ham United will “fight” to keep of Declan Rice amidst Manchester United interest
West Ham United manager David Moyes has stated that they will “fight” to keep a hold of Declan Rice amidst interest from Manchester United. The Scottish manager is looking to bring success to East London.
The Red Devils, along with Chelsea, have been linked with the 23-year-old’s signature in recent months. He has been in fine form for the Hammers over the years and has developed into one of the best defensive midfielders in England.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Moyes, who managed Man United for almost a season between 2013 and 2014, hopes to entice Rice to stay at West Ham. The Hammers will not let go of the midfielder easily.
“He wants to win and he wants to play for a really good side, which is going to give him that opportunity to do so. We hope that we can reach the Champions League.
“It is looking difficult at this moment in time but we are not just going to roll over and let Dec walk out of the building, that is for sure. It is going to be a big fight.”
The 23-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea before moving to the East London side. After breaking into the Irons’ first team in the 2017/18 campaign, the England international has not looked back.
Rice has been handed the added responsibility of being the captain at West Ham. The midfielder has also shown his versatility over the years. He has played as a centre-back on a number of occasions.
The 23-year-old also played a key role for Gareth Southgate in Qatar. At the 2022 World Cup, he featured in every match for the Three Lions. However, England could not make it past the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament.
United bolstered the number six position in the recent transfer window with the addition of Casemiro from Real Madrid. Initially, the Brazil international was kept out of the team due to Scott McTominay’s form.
However, since the 30-year-old’s first Premier League start against Everton, he has been a mainstay in Erik ten hag’s plans. The midfielder once again put in a brilliant performance against Nottingham Forest in our previous fixture.

Thus, for now, the Red Devils have enough quality in the defensive midfield position with Casemiro. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will opt to make a move for Rice in the coming future.
