Manchester United are interested in the signature of Inter Milan and the Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are ‘pressing to sign’ the 26-year-old from the Nerazzurri. Previously, the Serie A giants were only looking to part ways with the full-back in the summer for €60 million.

However, the Italian outfit are now open to letting the Holland international leave in the upcoming transfer window. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also eyeing him.

The Blues have Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta capable of playing at right-back. But the England international has had his injury issues over the years. The 23-year-old was forced to leave the pitch early as Graham Potter’s team beat AFC Bournemouth 2-0.

Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster the right-hand side of the defence. The Dutch manager is keen on adding competition to the position, with Diogo Dalot the current first choice.

The Portugal international has started in a majority of the fixtures for United this season. He has had to shoulder the burden with Aaron Wan-Bissaka seemingly out of favour.

Fortunately, the England U21 international has been given opportunities in our previous two fixtures by Ten Hag. The former Crystal Palace star has put in impressive displays against Burnley and Nottingham Forest.

Dumfries has been in fine form since moving to Inter in the summer of 2021. The 26-year-old also shone at the 2022 World Cup for the Netherlands. He was an ever-present in Louis van Gaal’s team in Qatar.

For now, Wan-Bissaka is proving to be a decent option in the squad. However, if the 25-year-old opts to leave the club in the coming months, the Red Devils could consider bringing Holland international to the club.
