Manchester United ‘targeting’ Inter Milan and Slovakia centre-back Milan Skriniar
Manchester United are ‘targeting’ the signing of Inter Milan and Slovakia star Milan Skriniar in order to bolster the backline, according to TEAMtalk (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 27-year-old’s current contract with the Nerazzurri expires at the end of this season. His time at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is seemingly coming to a conclusion as the centre-back is yet to extend his deal.
Skriniar joined the Italian outfit in the summer of 2017 from Sampdoria. Since then, he has been a mainstay in the Serie A giants’ starting lineup.
The Slovak star has developed into one of the best defenders in the world with his performances for the Nerazzurri over the years. In the 2020/21 campaign, the 27-year-old helped Inter lift the Scudetto after an 11-year drought.
Under Simone Inzaghi, Skriniar has been a key player for the Milan-based club. They successfully made it out of the group stages of the Champions League, pipping Barcelona to the second spot. The Serie A giants will now face FC Porto in the round of 16 of the UCL.
Inter are currently fifth in the Italian top flight, three points behind second-place AC Milan. The Nerazzurri have not been at their best this term and they have struggled a bit defensively in the league.
United’s backline is currently stacked with the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at Erik ten hag’s disposal. The France and Argentine defenders have formed a solid partnership at the Old Trafford side.
As for our captain, the 29-year-old has lost his place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup under the Dutch manager. However, the England international’s performances at the 2022 World Cup were encouraging.

Currently, United have enough depth in defence. However, if any of our current defenders decide to leave for more game time elsewhere, we could look at bringing Skrinair to the club next summer for free.
