Transfer News: Manchester United looking to sign Marcus Thuram in January transfer window
Manchester United are looking to sign Borussia Monchengladbach and France international Marcus Thuram in the January transfer window, according to Bild (h/t The Sun).
The Red Devils are in the market as they are seeking a new striker after club legend Cristiano Ronaldo saw his contract get terminated last month. And now they seem to have identified a potential target.
Thuram sees his current contract expire next summer at the Bundesliga club, and the striker is far from signing a new deal. As such it is believed that the 25-year-old will be available for as low as £9.6 million next month.
It would be a bargain deal for the Red Devils if they can manage to secure his signature. The French international has been in exceptional form for his club this season, scoring 13 goals in 17 appearances for them in all competitions.
He is also part of the French squad at the World Cup where he came on in the final to replace Olivier Giroud. The 25-year-old helped change the tide for his country as he assisted the second goal. He, however, could not help them lift the cup as they lost 4-2 on penalties to Argentina,
Erik ten Hag needs to add reinforcements up front. Marcus Rashford has led the line most of the time this season, but he has been at his best on the wings. Meanwhile, Anthony Martial has struggled to stay fit and missed the World Cup in Qatar this year.
With Thuram being available for such a cut-fee price, this is the perfect opportunity for United to get in a player who would help them strengthen the squad. Also the forward is just 25, and could likely play his prime years at Old Trafford.
