Manchester United set to enquire about SL Benfica and Portugal forward Goncalo Ramos
Manchester United are ‘set to make an enquiry’ about the availability of SL Benfica and Portugal star Goncalo Ramos, according to ESPN (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are interested in the signature of the 21-year-old. He is one of the several players being eyed by the Old Trafford side ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently departed the Manchester-based club after his infamous interview with Piers Morgan. The club are now looking for a replacement for the 37-year-old in January.
While the former Real Madrid star did not have his best season at United under Erik ten Hag, he was an option for us up front. In recent fixtures, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner majorly featured in the starting lineup.
Ramos has been in fine form in the current campaign. The 21-year-old made his way into Benfica’s first team last season. However, the forward has broken out this term.
The Portuguese has made 21 appearances for the Primeira Liga outfit in the 2022/23 campaign. He has found the back of the net 14 times and provided six assists.
Ramos was also impressive at the 2022 World Cup. The 21-year-old pipped Ronaldo in Fernando Santos’ XI in Qatar and scored a hattrick against Switzerland in the round of 16. However, Portugal fell to Morocco in the quarter-finals.
United are left with only one natural centre-forward at the moment. However, Anthony Martial has been hampered by injuries this season. As a result, Ten Hag has deployed Marcus Rashford up front.
