Manchester United consider loan with buy offer for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix
Manchester United are considering making a loan offer for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2023, according to ESPN (h/t Express).
The Portugal international is set to leave Los Rojiblancos in the coming months after falling out with manager Diego Simeone. However, the Spanish outfit paid a colossal sum for the 23-year-old back in 2019 and will be keen on getting most of it back.
However, the Red Devils are finding it ‘problematic’ to spend big in January. Erik Ten has been informed that bringing in a new striker in the winter window is not a guarantee.
As a result, the Old Trafford side are thinking about bringing Felix to Manchester on a loan move initially. The club will then pay the agreed-upon asking price after a few months.
The Portuguese has been underwhelming at Atletico since signing from SL Benfica. He has failed to live up to the expectations in Spain.
However, the 23-year-old showed glimpses of his talent at the 2022 World Cup. However, Portugal were shockingly knocked out by Morocco in the quarter-finals.
United evidently need to bolster their forward line after Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely departure midway through the season. Erik ten Hag is now left with only one natural striker in Anthony Martial.
Marcus Rashford has also been deployed in the number nine position. But it is not the 25-year-old’s natural position. The Dutch manager has other wide options in Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Elanga.

However, the Red Devils are seemingly lacking a goalscorer. While Felix has not been the most clinical at Atletico, the 23-year-old still has a lot of potential. But will the La Liga outfit accept a loan proposal with an obligation to buy? Only time will tell.
