Liverpool agree deal with SL Benfica and Argentina star Enzo Fernandez amidst Manchester United links
Premier League rivals Liverpool have agreed a deal with SL Benfica and Argentina star Enzo Fernandez amidst links to Manchester United, according to La Capital (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Merseyside outfit have already come to terms with the youngster for a transfer in the summer of 2023. Jurgen Klopp’s team have quickly snapped up the 21-year-old to fend off interest from the likes of the Red Devils.
Fernandez moved to the Eagles in the recent transfer window from Argentine outfit River Plate. Since then, the midfielder has been a pivotal player for the Primeira Liga outfit.
Roger Schmidt’s team have gone unbeaten in all competitions this season. They surprisingly pipped the likes of Juventus and Paris-Saint Germain to pip the top spot in the group stages of the Champions League.
The 21-year-old has been a key member of Benfica’s squad. In the current campaign, the youngster has made 24 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
Fernandez has also shone at the 2022 World Cup with Argentina. The 21-year-old has made it to the final in Qatar as Lionel Scaloni’s team beat Croatia 3-0 in the semi-finals.
Liverpool have the likes of Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson in the middle of the park. However, the Anfield side have suffered a lot of injuries in the engine room this season and have been underwhelming in the league.
On the other hand, the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen has evidently improved United’s midfield. However, we seem to lack quality in depth with Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek as the backups under Erik ten Hag.
