Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag compares Marcus Rashford to Kylian Mbappe
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, while speaking to Manchester Evening News, believes Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has the potential to reach the same level as France and Paris St. Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.
“I believe when Marcus’s positioning is on the back of the defending line, there is almost no better player in the world.
There is Mbappe in this moment, a type like him. But when he (Rashford)’s getting in that position, he’s great and you see he’s really improved also out of possession.”
Rashford has been in scintillating form for club and country this season and Ten Hag is a huge fan of England forward, who was the top joint goal scorer for his country at the FIFA World Cup despite starting just one game and playing 137 minutes at the tournament.
Many were left shocked over Gareth Southgate’s decision to snub Rashford in place of Raheem Sterling, who had just returned back to the national team, after having left the team midway through the tournament due to personal reasons.
In spite of the exit from the tournament, United supporters should be happy with the manner in which our team’s players played at the tournament, with Rashford particularly shining through with his performances.
It would give him an ideal boost of confidence to be ready for the second half of the season with the player expected to lead the line for Erik ten Hag after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the squad.
Ten Hag with his comments has shown his admiration for Rashford and according to Fabrizio Romano, is desperate for Rashford to sign a contract extension and sees him as a big part of the project.
After a dismal last term for the player, he has come rejuvenated and refreshed to stack his claim as one of the best players in the league and if his performances until now are anything to go by, we are finally seeing the version of Rashford which gave him the spotlight in the first place.
