Transfer News: Manchester United renew interest in Napoli defender Min-jae Kim
Manchester United have renewed their interest in SSC Napoli and South Korea international centre-back Min-jae Kim, according to the Mirror.
The 26-year-old was one of the best performers for his country at the World Cup this year, seeing his side reach the Round of 16 as they crashed out after losing 4-1 to Brazil.
Man United had the chance to sign him when he was playing for Chinese side Beijing Sinobo Guoan but were hesitant to do so. The 26-year-old ultimately joined the Serie A side this summer and has been phenomenal for them.
Kim had the monumental task of filling in the hole for Kalidou Koulibaly who joined Chelsea this summer. To say he has lived up to the task would be an understatement.
The 26-year-old has been a first-choice centre-back for Luciano Spalletti’s side this season, helping them sit comfortably at the top of Serie A. It is hardly surprising to see the Red Devils show interest in such a talented defender.
While Erik ten Hag seems to have found the first-choice pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane to lead his backline, there are still questions about the Frenchman staying fit for the entire duration of the season.
Also, it has led to the future of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at Old Trafford coming into doubt. Maguire was one of the best players for England in the World Cup and might have made Ten Hag consider his position in the Old Trafford pecking order.
Kim has a release clause of £38 million in his contract, although Napoli are preparing an improved contract to offer their star defender. European champions Real Madrid are also interested in the 6ft 3in centre-back.

It remains to be seen what United decide to do. The last time they signed a South Korean, Park Ji-sung, he went to become a cult hero within the fanbase. Maybe Kim can follow in his countryman’s footsteps and leave his own legacy behind at Old Trafford.
