Manchester United midfielder Casemiro determined to continue with Brazil after shock Croatia defeat
Manchester United star Casemiro is determined to continue his playing career with the Brazil national side after their shocking loss to Croatia at the 2022 World Cup. The Canarinho fell to the Vatreni in the quarter-finals on penalties on Friday (9 December).
After the full-time whistle at the Education City Stadium, neither of the two teams could break the deadlock. However, just before the end of the first half of extra time, Neymar managed to find the back of the net after a mesmerising run.
But Croatia managed to find a way back in the 117th minute. Bruno Petkovic’s deflected shot managed to beat Alisson Becker and the game went into the shootouts.
Rodrygo and Marquinhos missed for Brazil from the spot as Croatia slotted all four of their penalties to advance to the semi-finals. Zlatko Dalic’s team will now face Argentina in the next round.
As for Tite’s team, a lot of people had them as one of the favourites to lift the prestigious golden trophy. However, they have fallen short in their pursuit of a sixth World Cup title.
Casemiro was pivotal for the South American nation in the Middle East. Speaking after the disappointing loss to GOAL (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 30-year-old was adamant about continuing his career with the Canarinho despite the setback.
“I’m 30, man. Of course, there are always kids, but I’m 30 years old, I’m living the best moment of my career, I’m very happy at the club I’m at. I missed an opportunity, but we need to see.”
Antony and Fred also played a part in the fixture against Croatia. However, the Brazilian trio will now fly back to Manchester.
Casemiro was signed by United in the recent transfer window from Real Madrid. The 30-year-old has been impressive in the middle of the park for us and has cemented his place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup.
