AS Roma interested in the Netherlands and Barcelona star Memphis Depay amidst Manchester United links
Serie A outfit AS Roma are interested in signing the Netherlands and Barcelona star Memphis Depay amidst links to Manchester United, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport via Team Talk (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Giallorossi are eyeing the Holland international, who the Balugranan are willing to part ways with in January. The 28-year-old is seemingly surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou side.
From the Premier League, Arsenal and the Red Devils have been linked with the forward. Now, Jose Mourinho’s team have also entered the race for his signature.
Roma’s current striking options include former Chelsea star Tammy Abraham and Italy international Andrea Belotti. However, the England international has been underwhelming this season. Mourinho can also call upon Paulo Dybala.
As for the Gunners, Gabriel Jesus has played up front for Mikel Arteta’s side for the majority of the season. However, the Brazilian has been sidelined after picking up an injury at the World Cup. Eddie Nketiah is the other number nine Arsenal have to count on for now.
At Barcelona, Depay has fallen down the pecking order in the current campaign with the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in the recent transfer window. Injuries have not helped the Holland international’s cause either.
However, the 28-year-old has played an influential role for the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup. He got on the scoresheet as Louis van Gaal’s team beat the United States 3-1 in the round of 16.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure at United has dwindled Erik ten Hag’s options up front. Marcus Rashford has had to play in the number nine position for the majority of the season due to Anthony Martial’s injury issues.
