Anthony Elanga hopes to learn from loss in Manchester United vs Cadiz friendly in Spain
Manchester United star Anthony Elanga hopes the team can learn from the 4-2 loss to Cadiz in the friendly on Wednesday (7 December) in Spain. The Red Devils took on the La Liga outfit at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.
The Old Trafford side were down two goals after the first 15 minutes. However, the team fought back to level the scoring. But in the end, the Pirates got the better of us and handed us a loss.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Elanga felt it was a test for some of the stars who had not played together for a while. However, the Sweden international believes it will only make the team better for the upcoming fixtures.
“We haven’t all played together, it was Brandon Williams’s first game [back after injury] as well so we’re all trying to get to know each other. We learned a lot from that game and now it’s all about using what we’ve learned and putting it to the test on Saturday against Betis.”
Anthony Martial got on the scoresheet for United from the spot. The France international has been in fine form for the Red Devils throughout the campaign.
Unfortunately, injuries have hampered the 27-year-old’s game time under Erik ten Hag. The former AS Monaco star has struggled to stay fit on a consistent basis this season.
At the break, the Dutch manager made 10 changes to the team. Many youngsters from the academy got a chance to play for the first team. Immediately, Kobbie Mainoo found the back of the net to level the scoring.
However, the inexperience showed as the team allowed Cadiz to retain their two-goal lead before the end of the game.
In the first half, Alejandro Garnacho was another player who looked lively and energetic. The 18-year-old has broken out in recent fixtures after his match-saving contributions against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup and Fulham in the Premier League.
Zidane Iqbal was another star who had a decent game. The Iraq international caught a lot of people’s eyes during pre-season. However, Ten Hag has not given him any game time in a competitive fixture in the current campaign.
