Chelsea lead Manchester United in the race for Inter Milan and the Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries
Premier League rivals Chelsea are leading Manchester United in the race for Inter Milan and the Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness (h/t Express).
The 26-year-old is expected to leave the Nerazzurri in the coming months, with the full-back departure ‘certain’. As a result, the Red Devils and the Blues are eyeing the Holland international’s signature.
Inter would like to sell Dumfries in January and retain him for the rest of the season on loan. However, it remains to be seen whether the defender leaves in the upcoming winter or the summer transfer window.
At the moment, Chelsea are the ‘big favourites’ to land the 26-year-old. However, the Old Trafford side are also looking to bolster the right-hand side of the defence.
The Stamford Bridge side boast one of the best full-backs in Reece James in their squad. However, injuries have been a thorn in the 22-year-old’s side over the years. As a backup, 33-year-old Cesar Azpilicueta is still plying his trade in West London.
On the other hand, Erik ten Hag has preferred Diogo Dalot at right-back for the majority of the season. The Portugal international has started in all but one game for the Red Devils under the Dutch manager.
The 23-year-old has had such an influential role in the team because Aaron Wan-Bissaka has hardly featured. Ten Hag has handed the former Crystal Palace star just four minutes of competitive action in the current campaign.
Thus, the Old Trafford side evidently need reinforcements at the back. Dumfries has been impressive fir Inter since signing for them last year from PSV Eindhoven.

The 26-year-old is also shining for the Netherlands in Qatar. He scored a goal and assisted twice in the Oranje’s 3-1 win over the United States in the World Cup round of 16. Now, it remains to be seen whether United will pursue the 26-year-old’s signature after the World Cup.
