Borussia Monchengladbach star Yann Sommer being targeted on free transfer by Manchester United
Manchester United are targeting getting Borussia Monchengladbach star Yann Sommer on a free transfer next summer, according to ESPN (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Switzerland international is in the final year of his current contract with Die Fohlen. As a result, the Red Devils can start negotiations with the 33-year-old in January.
Martin Dubravka was signed on loan by United in the recent transfer window from Newcastle United. However, the Slovakia international has hardly featured for the club. He is expected to leave the Red Devils when his temporary deal ends.
The 33-year-old arrived on deadline day, with Dean Henderson leaving the Old Trafford side earlier in the window. The England international joined Nottingham Forest on loan.
David de Gea has been the number one in between the sticks for United this season. The Spaniard has been in fine form for the Red Devils since the 2021/22 campaign.
The 32-year-old had a shaky start to the season under Erik ten Hag. However, the former Atletico Madrid star has bounced back in impressive fashion and shown why he is one of the best in the world.
Sommer signed for Gladbach in the summer of 2014. Since then, he has been the first name on the team sheet for the Bundesliga outfit. The Swiss national is currently in his ninth season with the German club.
The 33-year-old also played in the majority of the games for his national side at the 2022 World Cup. However, Switzerland crashed out after losing 6-1 to Portugal in the round of 16.
