Aston Villa open negotiations for Atletico Madrid and Portugal forward Joao Felix amidst Manchester United links
Premier League outfit Aston Villa Joao Felix have opened negotiations for Atletico Madrid and Portugal star Joao Felix amidst links to Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Mirror).
The youngster is keen on leaving Los Rojiblancos. He has a strained relationship with the La Liga outfit’s manager Diego Simeone. As a result, the 23-year-old has asked his agent to find a new club.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently departed the club. The Portuguese icon’s departure has resulted in Erik ten Hag’s options up front dwindling. Thus, the Red Devils are looking to add reinforcements to the attack.
The Old Trafford side are interested in Felix. However, the Villans are eyeing bringing the 23-year-old to the Premier League. Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also considering getting the Portuguese youngster’s signature.
Felix has been underwhelming at Atletico since signing from SL Benfica. Following his performances in the Primeira Liga, people had high expectations from the forward. However, he has failed to fulfil them in Spain.
Villa recently sacked Steven Gerrard and appointed Unai Emery. The Spanish manager has garnered the reputation of being a successful manager in Europe. In his first game in charge of the Lions, he beat us 3-1 at Villa Park.
While Felix has failed to perform consistently at Atletico, the youngster has been impressive at the 2022 World Cup for his nation. Portugal have made it to the quarter-finals after beating Switzerland 6-1 in the round of 16.
United currently have just one natural striker, Anthony Martial, in the squad. Unfortunately, the French national has been hampered by injuries this season. Marcus Rashford has also been deployed up front by Erik ten Hag.
However, it is evident that we need to bolster the front line. It is not always that a player of Felix’s talent and potential is available in the market. Our fans would want to believe that we are a club that can – and should – be able to outmuscle a team like Aston Villa for such targets.

A team that finished 14th in the league, just 10 points above the relegation zone, Villa are no longer the European giants they were in the 1980s. If Felix is available, we must flex our financial and cultural clout to pull at his heartstrings and appease Atletico into selling him to us.
