Sven-Goran Eriksson thinks Harry Kane would be a better fit for Manchester United than Cody Gakpo
Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson while speaking to Betway (h/t Manchester Evening News) believes that Manchester United should go for England and Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane instead of Netherlands star Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo has been rumoured to be of interest to Manchester United ahead of a possible transfer move, with the player and United manager Erik ten Hag both sharing the same agent.
The PSV Eindhoven forward has been sensational for the club and is replicating the form with the national team at the FIFA World Cup, having scored three goals in four games so far.
However, Eriksson believes that the club should look at Harry Kane to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure instead of Cody Gakpo.
The thing is that many clubs will have been watching him thirty or fourty times. Ronaldo has gone now and Manchester United need an out and out number nine and Harry Kane seems the perfect fit. Kane could be impossible but they have to get something similar. Right now I don’t think Gakpo is the profile they need.”
Kane has been linked with United previously multiple times but a move has never materialised with the player on his way to becoming a Spurs legend and has scored an impressive 195 league goals so far.
Clearly, the only thing missing from his resume is the lack of trophies and many would credit the team he is playing for as the factor behind such a fact.
The player has proved commendably over seasons that he could play for any top team and a move to rivals Manchester City was close to completion last summer but with the signing of Erling Haaland, that move seems to have its essence.
Now, with Spurs manager Antonio Conte’s future also uncertain amid the ongoing contractual talks, a bad season ending for the team can pave the way for us to scoop in for the player.

For now, Gakpo seems the more attainable target and could provide us flexibility with his ability to play central and from the wings hence not curbing a move for a star forward in the summer.
