Belgium star Thomas Meunier open to a move to Manchester United transfer amid links
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News), Borussia Dortmund right-back Thomas Meunier is supposedly open to a move to Manchester United amidst links to the Red Devils in January.
Manchester United are not alone in their interest in the Belgium international with many other clubs also said to be monitoring the 31-year-old. Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus and two London-based clubs are also monitoring the player.
The 31-year-old defender has played 14 times for Dortmund across all competitions this season making one assist. Meunier has a contract with the German club until 2024 (Transfermarkt) but a number of clubs want him now.
Manchester United have Diogo Dalot for the right-back position with Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a backup. However, the latter has hardly featured this season, struggling with his fitness and Dalot is playing almost every single game.
As good as the Portuguese has been and despite the fact that he keeps getting better with every passing game, Man United need someone who can provide cover to Dalot and Meunier could just be the player to fulfil that role.
Dalot should undoubtedly continue being Ten Hag’s preferred option and should play most of the games but Man United really need someone to step up when the right-back is not available to play or needs the rest.
Meunier might be 31, but he has the experience to be playing at a club like Man United. The Belgian is not the best option going around but he definitely is a short-term fix and could play the backup role at Man United.
Although a number of clubs are interested in the Dortmund defended, it will be surprising if there is a transfer battle for him and any club that wants him are likely to be able to sign him at a very decent price.

It remains to be seen how this transfer rumour develops. Meunier could be useful if he signs for us but it’s not the end of the world if he doesn’t come here after all.
