Gilberto Silva compares Brazil and Manchester United star Fred to Kleberson
Brazil icon Gilberto Silva has compared Manchester United star Fred to former Red Devils midfielder Kleberson. The 46-year-old is impressed with the 29-year-old’s partnership in the middle of the park with Casemiro.
The former Old Trafford side’s star is currently the assistant manager at New York City. After winning the World Cup alongside the Arsenal icon in 2002, the Manchester-based club signed Kleberson in 2003. Unfortunately, he spent just two seasons with the club and failed to make an impact.
The former Athletico Paranaense star made 30 appearances at United in all competitions. He managed to score two goals and gave five assists.
Writing on the BBC (h/t Mirror), Silva, who spent six years with the Gunners, is impressed with the former Shakhtar Donetsk star’s partnership with the former Real Madrid midfielder.
“I have watched them [Casemiro and Fred] play many matches together now and, for Brazil, they have lost only once – the 2021 Copa America final against Argentina.
“It works very well because Casemiro sits at the back like I did and Fred is more mobile, like Kleberson was when he was next to me in our midfield at the 2002 World Cup.”
Fred signed for United in the summer of 2018 from the Ukrainian outfit. However, the Brazilian has been unable to convince fans of his qualities. On the other hand, the 29-year-old has consistently performed for Tite’s team.
The midfielder has been given multiple opportunities in the Red Devils’ starting lineup. However, he has rarely sparked.
In the previous campaign, there was a period where Fred was played a bit higher up the pitch. The Brazilian shined in a number of fixtures. However, such performances have been few and far between for him at the Old Trafford side.
In the recent transfer window, United signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to bolster the engine room. The duo have made an immediate impact on the team.

The Danish and Brazilian midfielder’s displays have dwindled the chances Erik ten Hag has given Fred. Thus, while his country’s fans might be happy with the 29-year-old, some supporters of the Old Trafford side would not mind his departure next summer.
