Manchester United could have an advantage in their pursuit of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express), Manchester United could have an advantage in their pursuit of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic with the Serbian set to agree on a new contract with the Italian club that has a lower release clause.
Man United have been interested in signing the talented Serbian midfielder for quite some time now. If the player does renew his contract, he may be available for a cheaper price than before.
Milinkovic-Savic is a name that constantly does the rounds as potential interest for many clubs in almost every transfer window and yet, the Serbian always seems to end up staying in Lazio and putting in a masterclass after masterclass every season.
In 26 games for the Italian club this season, Milinkovic-Savic has scored six goals and provided eight assists across all competitions. He has been one of Lazio’s most consistent performances in recent years and just doesn’t seem to be stopping.
The thing about Milinkovic-Savic is that he has been around for so long now and yet, he somehow is still just 27 years old. He still has a huge future in the game and he might be set for a big move that can spark his career.
Milinkovic-Savic has a contract with Lazio until 2024 (Transfermarkt) and it has now emerged that he is open to dialogue to renew his contract with the Italian club provided they agree to give him a lower, much more attainable release clause.
Following so many years at Lazio, the Serbian might not want the club to lose him for free but he will want to have more control over his future if he desires to move to a top European club. A lower release clause will help in that.
Although signing Milinkovic-Savic for free might be the dream, clubs like Man United will be willing to shell out money to sign a player of his quality and a lower release clause could tempt them to match that.
