Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo offered mega deal from Saudi Arabia club Al Nassr
Former Manchester United and current Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been offered a mega deal from Saudi Arabia giants Al Nassr, according to CBS Sport (h/t Express).
The 37-year-old saw his contract with the Red Devils mutually terminated last week after he gave an unsanctioned interview to Piers Morgan where the five-time Ballon D’or winner criticised the manager Erik ten Hag and also hit out at the owners.
Now, a free agent the Portugal captain has a mega deal offer worth £186 million from the Saudi-based club. Should he accept the offer, it would see him pocket £62 million a year.
It is believed that the contract offer was initiated over the summer and talks are advancing. But it is also believed that Ronaldo wants to join a top European club and wants to play Champions League football again.
The 37-year-old is the competition’s top goalscorer with 140 goals and does not want to lose that record to his closest rival Lionel Messi, who is on 129. However, an offer from a top European club is awaited.
Ronaldo had a dream homecoming last summer when he returned back to Old Trafford. Despite ending the last season as the club’s top scorer he failed to help the club clinch Champions League football and wanted to leave in the summer.
He is currently in Qatar captaining his side. The 37-year-old got off to a good start, opening the scoring during his side’s 3-2 win over Ghana last week. A decent performance in the tournament could maybe help him get a European club in January.
It remains to be seen if the forward accepts the offer from Al Nassr, giving up on playing in UEFA Champions League football once and for all. Given his fitness and ambitions, that would seem unlikely.
