Manchester United and Argentina star Lisandro Martinez reacts after his heroic display in the win vs Mexico
Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has taken to Instagram to reveal his happiness after Argentina’s win against Mexico in the World Cup with the talented defensive ace putting on a display to remember against the North American country.
It was by no means the prettiest performance from Argentina who huffed and puffed their way for much of the game before a certain Lionel Messi decided to turn the style on and helped La Albiceleste get a much-needed win.
Eventually, Lionel Scaloni’s side emerged as 2-0 winners against Mexico thanks to goals from Messi and Enzo Fernandez. It was a must-win game for a team billed as pre-tournament favourites and ultimately they got the job done.
One player who had an absolutely incredible display for Argentina last night was Man United centre-back, Lisandro Martinez. Coming into the line-up to replace Christian Romero last night, the 24-year-old did not disappoint.
Martinez was an absolute livewire in the backline flying into tackle after tackle and coming out on top for most parts. He was the main reason that Argentina got to keep a clean sheet last night and it must make him proud.
In the 90-odd minutes that Martinez played last night, he recorded four clearances, one interception, one tackle, won two out of his four ground duels, one out of his two aerial duels and also completed 85% of his passes.
Here is how the Man United centre-back reacted on Instagram after his country’s much-needed win against Mexico (translated into English)
“Let’s ******* go! Proud of this group that always gives the maximum. Wednesday again with everything!!”
For anyone who watches Man United this season, yesterday’s performance from the 24-year-old would not have come as one bit of a surprise. Martinez has been doing the same for the Red Devils and he is arguably the best centre-back Argentina have.
Last night’s display against Mexico is likely to convince Scaloni to give the Man United man an extended run in the team. To be fair to Martinez, he deserves it and let’s hope he can continue with similar displays.

Martinez is a player who breaks all stereotypes about conventional centre-backs. Yet, he is right now proving to be one of the best in that position and as long as it is effective, it bodes well for Argentina and Man United.
