Gary Lineker reveals Manchester United star Harry Maguire is “alright” after suffering concussion in England win over Iran
Former English striker Gary Lineker has revealed Harry Maguire does not have a serious injury after being forced off as England won 6-2 against Iran. The defender suffered a concussion and was replaced by Eric Dier in the 70th minute.
The Three Lions took on the Lions of Persia on Monday (21 November) at the Khalifa International Stadium. And the Red Devils’ captain started the game alongside Manchester City centre-back John Stone in a back four.
The 29-year-old almost broke the idea lock at around the half-hour mark with his strike. Kieran Trippier’s corner was met by the former Leicester City star’s head, but the crossbar denied him a goal.
Luke Shaw also was in the England XI from the beginning and played the full 90 minutes for Gareth Southgate’s team. The 27-year-old provided the assist for the Three Lions’ opener in the 35th minute.
Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham rose high for Shaw’s cross to head the ball in the back of the net for his first-ever goal for the national side. Maguire set up the second goal as he cushioned his header down for Bukayo Saka to score on the half-volley.
Chelsea star Raheem Sterling got on the scoresheet as well before the break, while the Arsenal star got his brace at around the hour mark.
Unfortunately, the Red Devils’ captain was forced off before the full-time whistle. And speaking on BBC (h/t Express), Lineker, who has 80 caps for England, disclosed that the 29-year-old is “alright”.
“Harry Maguire has blurred vision, but is all alright otherwise. That’s the news that is coming out of the England dressing room.”
Maguire has not had the best of times at United since last season. Our captain has also lost his place in the starting lineup for the Old Trafford side under Erik ten Hag.
