Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic reveals Manchester United tried to sign him “several times”
Marko Arnautovic, who currently plays for Bologna, has revealed that Manchester United tried to sign him “several times” in the recent transfer window. However, the 33-year-old is happy with his decision to stay in Italy.
The Austria international was amongst the forwards the Red Devils were targeting to bolster the attack in the summer of 2022. However, most fans expressed their concern about the striker. In the end, a deal did not end up materialising.
Speaking to Laola1 (h/t Metro), Arnautovic admitted it was to not move to United. But the forward has no regrets about remaining at the Serie A outfit.
“Manchester United tried to sign me several times. And it was a difficult decision to stay in Italy because my family wanted to return to England.
“For me it’s clear that the Red Devils remain at the top of the universe. And Bologna, as a name, are not. But that’s fine. Here everything is calm, you have time for yourself and no stress. This is only good for me.”
The 33-year-old joined Bologna last year from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Port. And he enjoyed a decent campaign with the Rossoblu last term.
In the 2021/22 season, the striker made 34 appearances for the Serie A outfit in all competitions. He scored 15 goals and provided one assist.
Arnautovic has continued his fine form for Bologna in the current campaign. He has featured 13 times for the Rossoblu in Serie A, finding the back of the net eight times.
United only made one addition to the forward line in the recent transfer window. Antony was signed by the Red Devils from Ajax. However, the Brazilian plays on the wings.
We have seemingly missed having another number nine in the squad. Marcus Rashford has been preferred by Erik ten Hag up front. Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo have not been afforded a lot of game time.

Arnautovic is someone who has Premier League experience, playing for the likes of West Ham United and Stoke City. However, the Old Trafford side were wise in not bringing the 33-year-old to Manchester. His age does not make the striker a compelling buy.
