Bayern Munich rule departure of Manchester United target Benjamin Pavard in January
Benjamin Pavard, who was linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer of 2022, will not leave Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, according to German outlet Sport1 (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Bundesliga giants are keen on keeping their French defender at the club in the winter. And the Bavarians are also set to open talks with the 26-year-old after the World Cup about his future in Germany.
Pavard was one of the players being monitored by the Old Trafford side in the recent transfer window. Erik ten Hag wanted to reinforce the right-back spot in the squad.
Diogo Dalot has cemented his place in the starting lineup under the Dutch manager. The 23-year-old has started in all but one game, which he missed through suspension, for the Red Devils in the current campaign.
The Portugal international signed for United in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. However, he largely played a bit-part role in Manchester before making his way to AC Milan on loan.
Dalot returned to the club in the previous campaign. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer kept his faith in Aaron Wan-Bissaka. But with the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, the former Crystal Palace star was pipped by the Portuguese in the pecking order.
Since then, the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength. As a result, Wan-Bissaka has fallen out of favour. And under Ten Hag, the England U21 international has played just four minutes of competitive football.
Thus, United evidently need to bolster the right-hand side of their defence. And Pavard has proven his qualities with Bayern over the years. The defender is also capable of playing in the centre-back position.

Currently, the mid-season break due to the World Cup has put a break on club football. However, Dalot is in Qatar to represent Portugal. Thus, fitness is seemingly going to be an issue for the right-back when he returns to Manchester.
