Premier League outfit Leicester City are confident of tying down Youri Tielemans to a new contract amidst links to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Belgium international is currently in the final year of his deal with the Foxes. However, the King Power Stadium side are hopeful of agreeing to fresh terms with the 25-year-old to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

The Red Devils have been associated with the midfielder’s signature for some time now. Unfortunately, it looks like the Old Trafford side’s target is set to extend his stay in the East Midlands.

Tielemans signed for Leicester in January 2019 from French side AS Monaco. Since then, he has become a key part of the Foxes’ recent success, lifting the FA Cup in 2021.

This season under Brendan Rodgers, the King Power Stadium side have struggled to keep up their expected standards. However, the 25-year-old has still managed to stand out in their team.

The midfielder is currently with the Belgium national side that is set to feature at the World Cup in Qatar. Roberto Martinez’s team are set to take on Canada, Morocco and Croatia in Group F.

United bolstered the middle of the park in the recent transfer window with the addition of Christin Eriksen and Casemiro. The Denmark international has been a key member of Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup in the current campaign.

The 30-year-old scored his first goal for the Old Trafford side against Fulham in the Premier League recently. However, we evidently lack depth in the engine room and look lacklustre when Eriksen is missing.

Thus, it would be wise for United to add more quality to the midfield. And Tielemans is a player who has proven himself in the English top flight over the years.
