Manchester United are interested in Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur also keeping an eye on the 23-year-old, according to Il Resto del Carlino (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are eager to bolster the middle of the park. And the Italy international is being monitored by the club. However, Spurs are also keen on the player currently plying his trade in Serie A.

The Neroverdi are not enjoying their best campaign this season. They currently sit 15th in the table in the Italian top flight. However, Frattesi has still been one of their standout stars.

Having come up through the ranks at AS Roma, the 23-year-old made his way to the Mapei Stadium in the summer of 2017. However, the midfielder spent some time in Italy’s second division on loan before being given a chance at Sassuolo.

And in the previous campaign, Frattesi had his breakout season with the Neroverdi. The 23-year-old featured in 38 games in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

The midfielder has been in fine form this term as well. Having mostly played in the number eight position, he has made 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.

United signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the summer of 2022 to add reinforcements to the engine room. Thankfully, both of them have hit the ground running in a red shirt.

However, some fans feel the Red Devils could improve their bench strength. The likes of Fred, Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay have failed to convince fans of their qualities over the years.

Thus, we evidently could do with more quality in the midfield. However, whether United opt to make a move for Frattesi in the future remains to be seen.
