“Magic. Top”- Manchester United superstar lavishes praise on his biggest rival in football

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo hails rival PSG forward Lionel Messi as “amazing player”

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has showered praise on Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Lionel Messi, calling him an “amazing player”.

The Portuguese and Argentine icons have been amongst the best players in the world for the last several years. Their footballing rivalry has formed the better part of the last decade in football.

Speaking on TalkTV (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 37-year-old has hailed the former Barcelona superstar for what he has done for the game. He feels proud to have shared the limelight over several years with the forward currently in Paris.

“He is an amazing player. Magic. Top.

“As a person, we share the stage 16 years. Imagine 16 years. So, I have great relationship with him. He’s a guy that I really respect the way he always speaks about me.

“What I am going to say about Messi? A great guy who does great things for football.”

Ronaldo and Messi have been at the pinnacle of the sport season after season. During the Portugal international’s first stint with the Red Devils, he had some tough battles with the Argentina international, who was with the Blaugrana at that time.

The Champions League final in 2009 took their rivalry to the next level. Unfortunately, on that occasion, the 35-year-old came out on top as Pep Guardiola’s team dominated us.

Ronaldo and Messi’s association grew even stronger as the 37-year-old moved to Spain and joined Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid. And their saga continued in La Liga for several years.

In the end, both players have done enormous things in the sport. While the PSG superstar is a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, the United icon boasts five of them. Their longevity has put them in the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) conversation.

Unfortunately, age seems to have caught up with the two. Ronaldo and Messi are not the players they used to be, but they are still quality. Now the next generation of superstars like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland look ready to take over the mantle.
