Chelsea looking to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic amidst Manchester United links
Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, is being eyed by Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Blues are figuring out a deal to bring the Serbia international to England next summer. Graham Potter’s team could use Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a makeweight to get a deal over the line for the 27-year-old.
Currently, the midfielder is enjoying another fruitful season with the Biancocelesti. However, his current contract with the Italian outfit expires at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Milinkovic-Savic joined Lazio in 2015 from Belgian outfit KRC Genk. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A.
The Serbian has consistently performed for the Biancocelesti over the years. And he has developed into a quality number eight, providing goals for the Serie A outfit from the middle of the park.
The 27-year-old has been in fine form once again for Lazio in the current campaign. He has made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Italian club, finding the back of the net five times and giving seven assists.
United bolstered the engine room in the recent transfer window with the addition of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. However, the two are not known for their goalscoring exploits. Milinkovic-Savic would also be an upgrade over both Fred and Scott McTominay, adding dynamism to the middle of the park.
The Denmark international found the back of the net for the first time for the Old Trafford side against Fulham. We ended up winning the match 2-1 at Craven Cottage with a stoppage-time winner from Alejandro Garnacho.
