Liverpool and Chelsea join Manchester United in race to sign Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar for free
Manchester United have been joined by Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar on a free transfer, according to 90min (h/t Express).
The Slovakia international is in the final months of his current contract with the Nerazzurri. While the Serie A giants had hoped to have the defender put pen to paper on a new deal before the World Cup break, that has not been the case.
Thus, an avenue to agree to a free transfer has opened in January. And apart from the aforementioned club’s from the English top flight, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are also interested in the 27-year-old.
Paris Saint-Germain were also looking to snap up Skriniar’s signature in the summer of 2022. And in the upcoming winter transfer window, clubs from outside Italy will be able to discuss a pre-contract with the defender.
However, Inter are still hopeful of extending the Slovak’s stay in Milan. They have not given up on the centre-back signing a new deal but are wary of the attention on him.
At United, Erik ten Hag has found his preferred partnership in Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez for the backline. The French and Argentine duo have made our defence relatively more solid than last season.
On the bench, the Dutch manager can also count on Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to do the job. Our captain lost his starting place after the defeats in the first two fixtures of the campaign.
Skriniar is a well-established centre-back in Italy. He has been one of the best defenders in Serie A over the years. And the 27-year-old would evidently want a stirring role wherever he moves.
