Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United need to solve problems in their front line
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes the club have faced problems with their front line in the 2022/23 campaign. The Dutch manager has urged the situation with player unavailability to be resolved.
Ten Hag has relied on Marcus Rashford to lead the line this season. And the 25-year-old has gotten ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial into the starting lineup. The Portugal international is seemingly not fancied by the gaffer, while the French attacker has struggled with injuries.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Express), Ten Hag is happy with what United have done up until now. However, the Dutch manager is evidently frustrated with the lack of options he has had for the number nine position.
“I think [I’m happy with United’s position], yep. Especially with the problems we have faced. One big problem is the front line. We didn’t have many players available in that first part of the season. We have to improve that, and if that comes, then we can be more consistent.”
The former Ajax head coach joined the Red Devils at the end of the last term. Ten Hag replaced Ralf Rangnick in the Old Trafford dugout and has had some mixed months since his arrival.
In the recent transfer window, United seemingly backed the Dutch manager and reinforced the squad. However, the forward line saw the addition of just one player, Antony.
The Brazilian reunited with the gaffer in Manchester after their time together in Amsterdam. And the 22-year-old started his career in a red shirt in a quick fashion. The winger scored consecutively in his first three Premier League games.
Rashford has been decent as the team’s number nine. The England international is currently our leading goalscorer. However, some fans feel the 25-year-old is not clinical enough in front of goal.
