Marcus Rashford credits his improvement this season to Manchester United striker coach Benni McCarthy
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has credited his improvement this season to striker coach Benni McCarthy. The 25-year-old is glad to have an attack-minded coach in the backroom staff.
The South African joined Erik ten Hag at the Red Devils in the summer of 2023. The 44-year-old forward is a former Champions League winner with FC Porto. He has also played in the Premier League with the likes of Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United.
McCarthy was managing a club in his home country, AmaZulu, before making his way to Old Trafford. Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Rashford admits the South African coach has helped him a lot.
“He’s [McCarthy] definitely helped me a lot. To have them attack-minded coaches within the squad is great for us forward players. It’s just day in, day out, we’re thinking about scoring goals, rather than the other bits.
“We’ve got him always there, speaking to us about it.”
The England international has been in fine form for United in the current campaign. He is currently the top goalscorer at the club, with eight goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.
Rashford has seemingly managed to turn things around under the former Ajax head coach. Last season, the forward looked devoid of confidence and had lost his place in the starting lineup.
However, the 25-year-old has seemingly found his feet once again with the arrival of Ten Hag to the Old Trafford side’s dugout. The Dutch manager has mostly deployed the England international in the number nine position in the 2022/23 campaign.
Anthony Martial has been injured for most of the season. Unfortunately, the gaffer has not been able to rely on the France international. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo has seemingly fallen down the pecking order in the Red Devils’ squad.
Apart from Rashford, none of our attackers have found the back of the net consistently, though. We have scored 18 goals in the Premier League so far in 13 fixtures.
