Erik ten Hag sends stark warning to Donny van de Beek about his Manchester United future
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has sent a stark warning to Donny van de Beek about his future at the club. The Dutch manager wants the Holland international to prove himself or leave the Red Devils.
The 25-year-old joined the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. However, since then, he has been unable to break into the team. The midfielder was on loan at Everton in the previous campaign.
However, speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag does not feel another loan move makes sense for Van de Beek. And the Dutch manager understands the challenge the midfielder has on his hands.
“I don’t think the loan makes sense. It’s either he fights and proves himself in this environment or he goes, but for me, there is still a way for him.
“But it’s not going to be easy for him because the competition there is really strong.”
The Holland international has not hit the heights many expected when he moved from Amsterdam to Manchester. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mostly used the 25-year-old as a substitute in his debut campaign. And the 2021/22 season saw the former Ajax start zero games for United in the Premier League.
With the arrival of his former boss Ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout, some fans were optimistic about Van de Beek finding his feet in Manchester. However, that has not been the case.
He made cameo appearances at the beginning of the campaign. Unfortunately, injuries sidelined the 25-year-old for a considerable time. Upon his return to fitness, the midfielder has not been able to make the most of the opportunities he has been given in recent weeks.
United strengthened the middle of the park in the recent transfer window with the addition of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. And the duo have made an immediate impact with the Red Devils.

Van de Beek has seen himself go down further in the pecking order, with Fred and Scott McTominay being played ahead of the midfielder by the gaffer. Thus, it would be wise for the 25-year-old to leave the Old Trafford side and try to revive his career elsewhere.
