Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick eyeing move for Manchester United youngster Zidane Iqbal
Manchester United icon and newly appointed Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick is eyeing a move for Zidane Iqbal, according to Football League World (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The ex-Red Devil was recently handed the reins of the North Yorkshire-based club. And the former midfielder is seemingly looking to make use of his connections with the Old Trafford side ahead of the January transfer window.
Iqbal is seen in high regard by those at United. Thus, any move away would likely be one on loan. And the Championship side are looking to get the Iraq international in the winter.
The 19-year-old caught fans’ eyes during the pre-season. He put in some enthralling displays against the likes of Liverpool and Crystal Palace in Thailand and Australia.
Iqbal made his debut for the Old Trafford side in the previous campaign in the Champions League. He came on as a substitute against BSC Young Boys in the last minutes of a group stage fixture that ended 1-1.
While the youngster had impressed in the friendlies under Erik ten Hag, he is yet to feature for the Red Devils this season. Although, the Dutch manager has had the 19-year-old on the bench in every game of the group stage of the Europa League.
Alongside Iqbal, there were other youngsters who impressed supporters during pre-season as well. Charlie Savage was another midfielder who caught some people’s attention.
United’s academy has produced a lot of stars over the years. In recent times, the most high-profile name has been Marcus Rashford. The 25-year-old recently scored his 100th goal for the Manchester-based club.

For Iqbal, regular game time with the Red Devils at the moment seems unattainable. Thus, a move to Middlesbrough in the Championship under Carrick could prove beneficial for the 19-year-old if he gets the opportunity.
