Manchester United are ready to back manager Erik ten Hag in his efforts to land Cody Gakpo
According to journalist Rudy Galetti (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United chiefs want to reward Erik ten Hag and will try to sign the Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo next year, with the club said to be confident over a deal.
Man United have been in good form with nine-game undefeated in all competitions and Ten Hag’s men truly look like a team ready to compete with every opposition.
In our last encounter against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League, we won the game 1- 0 but failed to meet the desired objective of scoring two goals or more, hence resulting in us being second in the group and would face one of the UEFA Champions League exits in the play-off knockout round.
One of the major factors that we faced yesterday was the lack of attacking options upfront when the home team realised that they could stay deep and focus on counter-attacking.
Ten Hag’s move for Harry Maguire to play as a second striker was a clear message to the United hierarchy of the need for a striker, the lack of which is putting a curb on the team’s performances.
Cristiano Ronaldo has not been his best this season while Anthony Martial has been on the sidelines for the majority of the time. Marcus Rashford has done decently while playing from the centre but we all are aware that his natural position is from the left.
Hence a need for a striker is urgent and Gakpo appears to be that man. The club appear reasonably confident of getting the deal done.
Gakpo has been the talk of the town with his exceptional performances with PSV Eindhoven this season where he has amassed a monstrous 29 goals contributions in 22 appearances, proving as one of the most lethal forwards in Europe currently.
His form has generated interest from other clubs such as FC Barcelona and a deal which could have easily been completed by us this summer now looks a bit complicated.
