Manchester United are tracking SL Benfica and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez
Manchester United are tracking SL Benfica and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez ahead of the January transfer window, according to 90min (h/t Express).
The Red Devils are leading the pack of clubs in the race for the 21-year-old. He has also been scored by the Old Trafford side as they intensify their interest in the youngster.
In the recent transfer window, Fernandez joined the Eagles from River Plate. However, United were also looking to sign the midfielder from the Argentine outfit in the summer. Premier League rivals Manchester City and Newcastle United also had an eye on him.
Wolves were close to hashing out an agreement with the side from Buenos Aires as well before the 21-year-old’s move to Portugal. Thus, the Red Devils are not the only side keeping an eye on him.
The Argentine international has become an important part of Roger Schmidt’s team this season. He has featured in almost every game for the Lisbon-based club.
Fernandez has played 21 times in all competitions for Benfica in the current campaign. And he has scored three goals and provided four assists in those appearances.
The 21-year-old is a versatile midfielder and has featured in several positions in the middle of the park, including the number six and number 10 positions.
Man United have a number of options in the engine room. Casemiro, Christina Eriksen and Bruno Fernandez have seemingly cemented their place in the team. However, the likes of Scott McTominay, Fred and Donny van de Beek have not been convincing as backups.
