Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has backed the club to turn up with intent for their game against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League.
The Red Devils continued their winning run with a deserving 3-0 win over FC Sheriff at Old Trafford thus sealing their qualification to the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League.
The blueprint seen in previous Eric ten Hag’s side is slowly but surely getting imprinted in a rejuvenated MUnited team who have seemed to develop exponentially over the coming weeks.
With the first-half goal from Diogo Dalot followed by a thumping Marcus Rashford header at the near post and ended with a Cristiano Ronaldo finish, it was a fantastic night for the team and fans. Despite the result, United still sit second in the group stage behind Real Sociedad and a showdown between the two sides will determine who tops the group.
The importance of winning a group is crucial as the team which finishes second could potentially face the teams exiting the UEFA Champions League that could including the likes of FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are possible opponents.
Therefore, although both teams have qualified, the last group stage game between Manchester United and Real Sociedad holds value for both teams’ way of progression in the further rounds of the tournament.
Speaking post the victory (h/t Manchester Evening News) over FC Sheriff, Marcus Rashford admitted that the team is ready for the game and is looking forward to the challenge.
“I think we have to go there [Real Sociedad] and win by two goals, so we’ll do what we always do, we’ll try to create chances and score goals, try to defend well. It’s going to be a tough game but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Rashford has been in impressive form lately and was brought on from the bench today and immediately made the team more potent going forward and scored a thumping header which proved why Ten Hag sees him as a no.9.
