Donny van de Beek to leave Manchester United in January as the club could look to cut their losses
Manchester United could look to cut their losses and part ways with Donny van de Beek in the upcoming transfer window. The Holland international has not enjoyed the best of spells with the Red Devils.
The 25-year-old made his way to Manchester from Ajax in the summer of 2020. And his debut season was decent, with the midfielder getting regular minutes off the bench. But unfortunately, since then, things have not been rosy for the Dutch star.
Speaking to GiveMeSport via MSN (h/t The Sun), Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has suggested the possibility of United letting the Van de Beek leave if any club shows interest.
“You never know. Come January, there’s potential that United might think they should cut their losses and see if there’s a club who would be willing to pay money for Donny van de Beek.”
In the previous campaign, the midfielder fell out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 25-year-old did not start a single Premier League fixture. And in January this year, the Holland international joined Everton on loan.
Under Frank Lampard, Van de Beek enjoyed more game time. He started a few games for the Toffees before injuries eventually hampered his season.
Back at United, his former Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag took the reins at United. And fans expected the midfielder to find his feet under the Dutch manager.
Unfortunately, fitness issues have once again proved to be a setback for the 25-year-old in the 2022/23 campaign. And competition in the side will evidently make it challenging when he comes back.
Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have cemented their places in the starting lineup. Bruno Fernandes occupies the number 10 position in the team. Fred and Scott McTominay have also looked good on occasions, although they have been inconsistent.

Without regular minutes on the pitch, it is seemingly going to be tough for Van de Beek to find match fitness. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the midfielder opts to find pastures new in the upcoming transfer window.
