Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo among four Manchester United stars who return to full training
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo are among the four stars who have returned to first-team training, via Manchester Evening News.
The centre-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek have returned after their respective injuries and are now working with the squad. On the other hand, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner returns after being suspended for his antics against Tottenham Hotspur.
Ronaldo refused to come on as a substitute against Spurs at Old Trafford during the Red Devils’ emphatic 2-0 win over the North Londoners. The 37-year-old then proceeded to walk down the tunnel before the final whistle.
As a result, the forward was dropped from the squad that was supposed to travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea. Erik ten hag had ordered the Portugal international to train away from the rest of the squad as well.
The Dutch manager held talks with Ronaldo to hash out the situation. Ten Hag wanted to gauge whether the forward was committed to the club after the incident. And the 37-year-old has been subsequently welcomed back to training.
Maguire’s return is also a big boost to the team. United lost Raphael Varane in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea. The 2018 World Cup winner picked up an injury at Stamford Bridge. Thus, the return of England international gives the gaffer options.
Wan-Bissaka has not played a big part for the Red Devils in the current campaign. However, Diogo Dalot has started every game this season. Fans would not mind seeing the 23-year-old get some much-needed rest.
Van de Beek offers Ten Hag familiarity in the middle of the park, having worked with him at Ajax. Therefore, with the congested last few weeks before the start of the World Cup, it is good to see the squad get replenished.
