Manchester United eyeing Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong
Manchester United are interested in bringing Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong to the club in the upcoming transfer windows, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter (h/t Express).
The 21-year-old is on the Red Devils’ list to bolster the right-back spot as the club look to bring in a quality player in January. However, the Old Trafford side are also willing to wait until next summer.
And Frimpong is a player whose profile Erik ten Hag is keen on. The 21-year-old’s current contract with the BayArena side expires in 2025. The Netherlands U21 international is also a key member of the Bundesliga outfit.
The full-back signed for Leverkusen in the winter window of 2021 from Celtic. Since then, the defender has developed into a fine player.
Frimpong had his formative stages of development as a player in Manchester. The 21-year-old grew up in Manchester City’s academy. Without playing a game for the Sky Blues’ first team, the youngster joined Celtic in 2019.
In the current campaign, the right-back has established himself in the German outfit’s starting lineup. And his performances have turned many heads.
United currently have Diogo Dalot as the mainstay in the team. The Portuguese has cemented his place as a regular under Ten Hag. On the other hand, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has rarely gotten on the pitch for the Old Trafford side.
The former Crystal Palace star seems to have fallen out of favour under the Dutch manager. This has evidently increased our reliance on Dalot to play every minute.
