Ruud van Nistelrooy reveals Cody Gakpo will decide in due time amidst Manchester United interest
PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed that Cody Gakpo will make a decision on his future in due time amidst interest from Manchester United.
In the recent transfer window, the 23-year-old was linked with the Red Devils. Erik ten Hag was keen on the Holland international. However, a deal did not end up materialising and he stayed in the Eredivisie. But we are still linked with the forward.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Van Nistelrooy admitted Premier League sides had an eye on Gakpo. However, the 23-year-old’s performances have turned the heads of other top European clubs as well.
“It’s not only Premier League clubs after him. His quality and form over the last three or four months has been exceptional. His stats and goals draw the attention of big clubs in European football.
“He is 23 and is focusing on his career with us at club level and having a great World Cup. He wants to continue that.
“When the time comes he will make decisions.”
Van Nistelrooy became a United icon after his five-season spell with the Red Devils. The Dutch national was a lethal striker during his playing career.
United ended up signing Antony in the summer of 2022. The Brazilian has gotten off to a good start in a red shirt. The 22-year-old scored in his first three league games for the Old Trafford side.
Other options at Ten Hag’s disposal in the squad include the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial. However, the French striker has had issues with his fitness in the current campaign.
Martial has missed most of the games this season. The former AS Monaco star has played the full 90 minutes in any fixture. However, the 26-year-old has contributed to goals whenever he has taken part in a match.
The Dutch manager also has Cristiano Ronaldo at his disposal. However, the 37-year-old has started just twice in the English top flight this season. He has also been an unused substitute in a couple of fixtures. And the five-time Ballon d’Or winner seems to be missing his shooting boots.
