Brentford forward Ivan Toney being eyed as replacement by Manchester United for superstar Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United are considering Brentford forward Ivan Toney as a replacement for Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Calciomercato (h/t The Sun).
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is being linked with a move away from the Red Devils in the January window. And if the 37-year-old does end up leaving, the Bees striker is being monitored ahead of a possible move to Manchester.
Toney’s current contract with the West London side runs until 2025. Various Premier League clubs are interested in the 26-year-old. However, the Bees are hoping to tie him down to a new deal.
Joining Brentford in the summer of 2020, Toney has made an immediate impact in Thomas Frank’s team. The English striker helped the Bees in their successful quest for promotion to the Premier League.
Toney was once again pivotal for Brentford in the previous campaign. The 26-year-old made 33 appearances in the English top flight, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists. And the Bees managed to survive the drop.
In the 2022/23 season, Toney has been in fine form. His performances led to his first England call-up in the recent international break. Although, the forward did not feature against Italy or Germany in the Nations League.
Ronaldo has been a bit-part player under Erik ten Hag. The Portugal international has not managed to get a start in the PL since the 4-0 loss to Brentford. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been preferred ahead of the 37-year-old in the team.

Toney was superb when United visited the Gtech Community Stadium. The Bees scored four goals past David de Gea in the opening 35 minutes.
It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo decides to part ways with the Red Devils midway through the campaign. If that does happen, will Toney make his way to United? Only time will tell.
