Dharmesh Sheth: Manchester United will try to pursue Frenkie de Jong again next summer
Manchester United might be tempted to pursue Frenkie de Jong once again next summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth. He does not rule out the possibility of the Red Devils targeting the Dutch midfielder in future windows.
United tried to sign De Jong in the recent transfer window. However, the Red Devils failed to persuade the 25-year-old to leave Barcelona. The Dutch midfielder was keen on staying in Spain.
Speaking to GiveMeSport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Sheth is of the opinion that United might still be interested in someone like De Jong.

“I won’t rule out them, in the next couple of transfer windows, still trying to go in for someone like Frenkie de Jong.”
United added quality to the middle of the park
United signed two midfielders by the end of the transfer deadline. Christian Eriksen came in early during the summer of 2022 as a free agent. The Danish national had a short spell with Brentford before signing for the Red Devils.
Fans have been delighted by Eriksen. The 30-year-old has exceeded the expectations of the Old Trafford crowd and has been an important addition to the middle of the park.
Eriksen has started every game under Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager has stuck with the Denmark international. After trying the 30-year-old out in multiple roles, the former Tottenham Hotspur star has seemingly found his stride in the number eight position.

Casemiro was the other addition to the engine room. The Brazilian arrived from Real Madrid after multiple successful, trophy-laden seasons in Spain.
Ten Hag also has the option to count on Scott McTominay and Fred. However, while the Scotland international has been able to get over his early season woes, the Brazilian has found himself mostly on the bench under the Dutch manager.
