Jorge Mendes offered Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to AC Milan in the recent transfer window

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to AC Milan by the 37-year-old’s agent late in the recent transfer window, according to Gianluca di Marzio via mbn.com (h/t The Sun).

Jorge Mendes tried a late manoeuvre to ensure a move for Ronaldo away from the Red Devils. The superagent tried to engineer a move for the Rossoneri’s star Rafael Leao to make room for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner at Milan.

United finished sixth in the league last season, missing out on Champions League football. And Ronaldo expressed his desire to leave in the summer of 2022. Mendes tried to get the Portuguese a move to a club playing in Europe’s premier competition.

Ronaldo wanted a move away from United. However, the 23-year-old remained with the Serie A champions and the 37-year-old ended up staying in Manchester.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has struggled under Erik ten Hag. In the previous campaign, Ronaldo was our top goalscorer. The 37-year-old was our talisman and led the attacking line.

However, this season has been one to forget for him so far. First, Ronaldo missed most of the pre-season. Then, the new gaffer opted to start Christian Eriksen in the centre-forward role in his first competitive game in the Old Trafford dugout, keeping the 37-year-old on the bench.

Ronaldo started just once for the Red Devils in the Premier League, in the 4-0 loss to Brentford. The Portuguese has since started in the Europa League only. And the 37-year-old scored his first and only goal of the new campaign against Sheriff Tiraspol.

With the national side, Ronaldo has not been able to perform either, as they lost to Spain in the UEFA Nations League recently. The 37-year-old is having a hard time in front of goal at the moment. And fans doubt he will start for United against Manchester City on 2 October at the Etihad Stadium.
